Storybird
By using storybird you can form your own storybird into a book. Moreover, storybird helps people to connect with one another by sharing their stories. It is meant to be fun and more like a game and therefore children really enjoy it.
Here you can see how to create a story. You can choose between many different illustrations in order to make your storybird really unique. Its main functions are understood fast and easily, thus, young children can work ( if necessary under parental supervision) with it alone. It is fun to create an own book and the illustrations are really gorgeous and highly variable.
Another great feature is that you can sign in as an entire class. Unfortunately time has changed so that writing and reading are not children´s favourite activities anymore. Therefore, I as a future German and English teacher think that is important to attract students attention in order to make them aware on how much fun reading and writing can be. By using Storybird they get introduced to it in a funny and enjoyable way. The lovely illustrations as well as the easy handling inspire students to write. Thus, the more they write the more they read. Moreover, they can share their works with one another, they can comment on each other´s works and they finally can embed their stories on a blog or create a "class-book".
Reflection
As already mentioned, I like Storybird since it is easy to understand and the results are awesome. It is so much fun to work with it both as a private person and as an entire class. In my opinion it is really hard to get pupil to write and to read nowadays. From my internships at school as well as from my own experiences as a former student I know that pupils increasingly develop a lack of imaginations. It is hard for them to imagine themselves in a fictive world or simply to make up a ficitve world. In my opinion Storybird offers a first, but a great step, into the right direction. Pupils can easily create their own books. The diversity of illustrations help them to dream away and to bulid their own worlds. They are stucked in their stories and imaginations so that they cannot wait to make up a new one.
Moreover, I like the fact that they are able work with one another and comment on each other´s works. They can work collaborativly, thus, they can invite friends to their stories. Laudatory comments for example can help pupils to believe in their writing abilities. You can use Storybird in language teaching as well.
All in all, I think that it is a really helpful and enjoyable tool which everyone should work with or at least try it in order to judge whether it helpful for pupils.
The tutorial below explains the adequate use of Storybird.
